Last week the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidance on face masks. The agency essentially recommended everyone get an N95.
As the medical website WebMD.com noted, “The CDC update doesn’t come out and say Americans should avoid cloth masks but clarifies that some kinds of masks work better than others.”
A couple days later, the CDC, on its official Twitter account, posted, “All masks help prevent the spread of #COVID19 when worn consistently and correctly. Choose a mask with the best fit, protection, and comfort for you.”
Yet about a week earlier, before the initial announcement picked up WebMD, the left-wing website Slate reported, “The CDC still wants to send the message ‘that any mask is better than no mask.’”
Three different messages on the same topic in the space of a week – and yet U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy believes Joe Rogan is the problem.
Murthy, like his boss, President Joe Biden, cited Rogan as a reason to shut down those who disagree with him and the public health establishment.
And he wants Big Tech to do the dirty work of abridging the First Amendment.
As Rebel News reported on Wednesday, Murthy “claims that Big Tech companies have a role to play in censoring misinformation,” as well as “a duty to ensure that ‘accurate’ information is presented to the public.”
Appearing on lib-friendly MSNBC, Murthy said, “We can have the best science available, we can have the best public health expertise available. It won’t help people if they don’t have access to accurate information” – such as about masks, one supposes.
“People have the right to make their own decisions,” he continued, “but they also have the right to have accurate information to make that decision with.”
Murthy added Big Tech has that “important role to play” because those outlets are “the predominant places where we’re seeing misinformation spread.”
“This is not just about what the government can do,” Murthy insisted.
“This is about companies and individuals recognizing that the only way we get past misinformation is if we are careful about what we say and use the power that we have to limit the spread of misinformation.”
As Rebel News columnist Ian Miles Cheong put it, “It’s worth noting that the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ is not a news publication, but a podcast run by an individual who simply has the audacity to speak his mind and have a conversation with others.”
“Instead of trying to censor Joe Rogan or anybody else, one might ask why the government simply doesn’t try to educate people on misinformation, or how to identify misinformation,” Cheong added.
“Instead, Murthy, members of the legacy media, and so-called ‘experts’ are demanding that Spotify and other platforms silence Rogan and ban his podcast.”
In that sense, Murthy is only following his dictator-adjacent boss, who last year said that social media companies were “killing people” and called for them to quell voices that did not comport to the establishment.
Biden then repeated that demand last week.
In comments at a White House event, Biden said, “I make a special appeal to social media companies and media outlets: Please deal with the misinformation and disinformation that’s on your shows. It has to stop. COVID-19 is one of the most formidable enemies America has ever faced. We’ve got to work together, not against each other.”
