For days, and especially on Wednesday, critics of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have tried to portray him as missing in action as COVID cases surged recently in his state.
Among those critics, for example, was Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, who claimed Floridians should be “outraged” that DeSantis was unaccounted for. “Where’s our governor?” Demings said during his rant.
Leftist hero U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York joined the chorus by tweeting about DeSantis being “inexplicably missing,” even as she enjoyed her own vacation in the Sunshine State.
AOC quickly torpedoed the liberal narrative after being photographed maskless and laughing it up at a bar in Miami – one last example of liberal hypocrisy on COVID in a year filled with it.
The Governor’s communications staffer Kyle Lamb responded to critics on Twitter who were questioning whether DeSantis was on vacation, writing: “Just FYI, [DeSantis] is not on vacation. Literally, no one from our office has said that he is.”
On Friday, though, DeSantis’ absence was finally explained.
Fox News reported that DeSantis had accompanied his wife, Casey, to a treatment for her battle against breast cancer.
In October, DeSantis announced that First Lady Casey DeSantis was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady. As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state. Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up,” said Governor Ron DeSantis said in October.
Meanwhile, speaking of vacations and adding to the hypocrisy, President Joe Biden has spent this week at his vacation home in Delaware after celebrating Christmas at the White House.
Biden was photographed frolicking with first lady Jill Biden and his new dog, Commander, as his administration was reporting a record number of COVID infections.
The Democratic president had recently declared that there was no “federal solution” to COVID and that states were on their own in fighting the virus.
The New York Post reported that the visit was Biden’s 31st holiday in his home state since he entered the White House 11 months ago.
