80-Year-Old Orlando Man Killed in Clearwater Pedestrian Crash

CLEARWATER, Fla. – An 80-year-old Orlando man was fatally injured Friday when he was struck by a van while crossing 49th Street N near the St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say around 7:18 p.m. The van was driven by a 69-year-old Clearwater man and was driving north on 49th Street N approaching Ulmerton Road in the outside left turn lane.

The 80-year-old Orlando man was walking westbound across 49th Street North and not in a crosswalk, Troopers say. The man entered the path of the van and was struck.

The man was transported to an area hospital but died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the van,

Troopers say the driver of the van was wearing his seatbelt and sustained no injuries in the crash.
