8-Year-Old Girl Dies When Car Crashes Into School Bus Thursday

CITRUS COUNTY, FL. – An 8-year-old girl from Hernando City was killed Thursday in a crash that happened around 3:09 pm Thursday.

According to Florida Highway patrol, a Citrus County School Bus transporting 30 students was traveling eastbound on North Carl G Rose Highway.

Troopers say the bus stopped at the intersection of East VFW Lane and activated its red stop lights to disembark students from Citrus High School. 

A car driven by a 75-year-old Hernando City man was traveling eastbound on North Carl G Rose Highway, failed to stop, and collided with the rear of the school bus. 

An 8-year-old girl, a passenger in the car who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered critical injuries in the crash. FHP Troopers say that the child was transported to a local hospital but died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers say the children on the bus and the bus driver, were uninjured.
