HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The latest affordable housing option funded in part by Hillsborough County will celebrate its grand opening Friday, this time in the University Area.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, for Uptown Sky, a 61-unit apartment complex at 13635 N. 12th St., Tampa, FL 33613.  All units are already rented at below-market rates to those who met income requirements.

The affordable apartment homes, at the intersection of 12th Street and Fletcher Avenue, will benefit low-income families by improving the quality of their homes, reducing the cost burden, increasing access to transit, and increasing access to services provided by the University Area CDC.

Hillsborough County contributed $5.8 million toward the project, part of its effort to address affordable housing issues.

The programs and services funded by the County focus on creating new affordable housing opportunities, training for residents to further their careers and afford home ownership, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the communities around them.

Uptown Sky was constructed by Blue Sky Communities, which specializes in affordable and workforce housing, and in partnership with the University Area CDC.
