SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department concluded Operation Safe Summer, a multi-month initiative focused on curbing gun violence and enhancing community safety. From late May to mid-August, the operation resulted in the recovery of 34 illegal firearms and various narcotics, showcasing the department’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing.
Through collaborative efforts with neighboring agencies, including the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, officers executed search warrants, conducted high-visibility patrols, and actively pursued wanted individuals. These actions culminated in the seizure of dozens of illegal weapons, some of which were in the possession of juveniles, further emphasizing the department’s dedication to protecting its youth.

In addition to the confiscated firearms, the operation yielded substantial quantities of various drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, and more. Over $28,000 in cash was also seized. The operation led to 54 arrests, resulting in a total of 136 felony and misdemeanor charges.
Chief Rex Troche lauded the operation’s success, stating, “This operation is just one example of how we’re working around the clock, often behind the scenes, to keep Sarasota safe. Even when you don’t see us, our officers are out there, making sure our community is protected from those who pose a threat. We’ll continue to be relentless in our efforts to reduce gun violence and safeguard our residents.”
