ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A young boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a car this afternoon in St. Petersburg.

The incident occurred around 3:22 p.m. at the intersection of 18th Avenue South and Prescott Avenue South. A five-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation.

Authorities have closed 18th Avenue South between 16th Street and 17th Street South as they investigate the crash. The road closure is expected to last for several hours.
