5-Injured in Monday Night Shooting, No Arrests Made, Investigation Underway

TAMPA, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night outside a gas station in the Clair-Mel area.

Just before 9 p.m. on Monday, January 4, a large group was gathered outside the convenience store at the Citgo located at 1225 S 78th Street.

Following a verbal altercation, a suspect displayed a firearm and shot a victim. Gunfire was returned, and four additional individuals were struck, including the initial shooter.

The victims were treated at local hospitals. Two individuals are still in the hospital this morning.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has spoken with the individuals involved. At this time, no arrests have been made.

“Senseless acts of violence, especially in public vicinities where innocent bystanders could be injured, are unacceptable,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are continuing to conduct an investigation into this incident and interviewing the individuals involved to learn more about what led up to the shooting.”
