ST. PETERSBURG, FL. – A 41-year-old motorcyclist died at the hospital following a crash Sunday in the city’s Grand Central District.
Police say at 5:04 p.m., on Sunday, a red Mini Cooper was in the center lane of 1st Avenue North traveling east.
A black Harley Davidson Street Glide driven by Elijah Cates, 41, was eastbound in the north curb lane of 1st Avenue North. The Mini Cooper changed lanes and made a northbound turn onto 30th Street North in front of Cates and the vehicles crashed.
Cates was transported to Bayfront Hospital and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The other driver, who was not injured, stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
