4-Year-Old Critically Injured In Accidental Shooting At Davenport Home

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself with a handgun at his Davenport home on Friday evening, February 21, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 PM.

According to the Davenport Police Department, the child was at home with his parents and siblings, preparing for an evening outing. The child went to the garage alone and entered the family vehicle. Inside the vehicle, he found a hidden handgun and accidentally discharged it, critically injuring himself.

The parents immediately drove the child to AdventHealth Heart of Florida in Haines City. He was subsequently airlifted to an Orlando hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Davenport Police Chief Steve Parker stated, “This is a heartbreaking incident. We are praying this child recovers from his injuries, and we equally pray for the family as they work through this tragedy.”

The parents are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The Davenport Police Department has not released the names of those involved, citing the early stages of the investigation.
