36-Year-Old Homicide Suspect Arrested For January Murder In Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – An arrest has been made in a January homicide that took place in Tampa.

According to police, on January 10, 2021, officers responded to the 3000 block of N. Morgan St. reference an adult black male that was discovered deceased by apparent gunshot wounds.

Detectives worked to develop leads and reviewed video surveillance that captured the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Derrick Hutchins, shooting the victim.

The victim and Hutchins were acquainted and were observed together earlier in the night hours before the shooting.

Through investigative research, detectives developed several witnesses who identified Hutchins as the shooter.

Hutchins is currently booked at the Pinellas County Jail on unrelated charges and police say the charge of Murder in the First Degree was added at Pinellas County.
