3 Teens Charged In St. Petersburg Teen Homicide That Stemmed From Social Media Argument

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Three teens have been charged in the murder of a another teen after an argument that started on social media and ended in a stand your ground case.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Three teens have been charged in the murder of a another teen after an argument that started on social media and ended in a stand your ground case.

An ongoing argument occurred between two groups of teens and young adults over social media.

This continued to escalate until 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 30th,  when four teens, all carrying guns, went to a home in the area of 6th Avenue South and 29th Street.

When they arrived, they confronted an armed man who was defending the house and fired at him.  He returned fire. One of the four teens, 17-year-old Lewis Johnson, was injured and died. 

His three associates were arrested today and charged as follows:

  • Chandler Kegler,16 – 2nd degree attempted murder, felony murder
  • Ian Byrd,15 -2nd degree attempted, felony murder
  • Jhimer Williams, 16 – 2nd degree attempted murder

The man who returned fire is not being charged at this time, police say.
