HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – In a concerted effort to keep roads safe during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Tampa Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol to conduct a multi-agency operation targeting impaired drivers.
Throughout the evening of December 31st, 2024, law enforcement officers conducted numerous traffic stops, focusing on drivers who exhibited signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
The operation resulted in 23 DUI arrests, 139 traffic stops, 16 citations, and 121 warnings.

“The holiday season is a time for celebration, but it’s also a time when we see a significant increase in the risk of impaired driving,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This collaborative effort sent a clear message that driving under the influence is not only dangerous but completely unacceptable.”
Sheriff Chronister emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making during the holidays and highlighted the operation’s role in preventing potential tragedies. “Together, we’re working to save lives and prevent tragedies before they happen,” he stated.
