In a significant blow to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), 21 civil service employees have resigned, citing their refusal to participate in the dismantling of critical public services.
The mass resignation, first reported by the Associated Press, underscores growing tensions within the federal agency tasked with slashing the size of the government under former President Donald Trump’s administration.
The departing employees, including engineers, data scientists, and product managers, submitted a joint resignation letter expressing their inability to reconcile their professional duties with the agency’s mission.

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the letter stated. “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”
In their letter, the employees warned that many of those recruited by Musk to lead the agency’s efforts were “political ideologues” lacking the necessary skills and expertise, according to the AP. The group said that individuals tasked with this mission are not equipped to make informed decisions about the future of public services.
