Anglers in Gulf state waters (excluding Monroe County) will have a short window to catch recreational gag grouper this year. The season opens on September 1st and closes at 12:01 a.m. on September 16th.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) shortened the season to prevent overfishing and align with federal regulations.
Remember, if you plan to fish for gag grouper or other reef fish in Gulf state or federal waters from a private vessel, you must sign up for the annual State Reef Fish Angler Designation.
