PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – The Pasco Sheriff’s Office recently conducted an undercover sting operation that arrested 20 individuals and businesses operating without proper contracting licenses.
Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit, with assistance from the New Port Richey Police Department, posed as homeowners seeking various contracting services, including electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and marine construction.

The operation revealed a concerning number of individuals willing to perform work without the required licenses.
According to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, hiring an unlicensed contractor can leave you vulnerable to shoddy work, building code violations, and even legal liabilities.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that unlicensed contracting not only puts consumers at risk of poor workmanship but can also leave them liable for damages and with limited recourse in case of disputes.

This operation was conducted in collaboration with Pasco County Building Construction Services and the City of New Port Richey. A list of the individuals and businesses caught operating without licenses is available on the Pasco Sheriff’s Office website.
Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and take steps to avoid contractor fraud. Tips include verifying licenses, checking references, and obtaining multiple written estimates.
