9th Grader At Countryside High School Detained At Gunpoint After Stabbing 2 Fellow Students

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Two students have been stabbed at Countryside High School and taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to police.

The two victims were last reported to be in stable condition. A ninth-grader was taken to All Children’s Hospital, while the 11th-grader was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

The suspect, who is a ninth-grader, was being questioned at police department headquarters and has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

The younger victim who was taken to All Children’s Hospital has been treated and released. The other victim remains in stable condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The stabbing occurred in the main front hallway of the school during a class change. The suspect was apprehended by a Clearwater Police school resource officer within two minutes of the incident.

The other Clearwater Police school resource officer helped tend to the victims until fire medics arrived on scene. Students were secured safely in their classes immediately thereafter until they could be dismissed.

Multiple Clearwater Police Department units, along with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies, converged on the scene. Personnel from Safety Harbor Fire Rescue, Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Sunstar also were integral in the medical response.

The stabbing took place at 11:24 a.m. and the suspect was detained at gunpoint in the same hallway at 11:26 a.m.

The Clearwater Police Department employs two officers at Countryside High School, and at Clearwater High School. Detectives continue to investigate the reason for the crime.

The parents of the two victims have been notified.
