MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Two men from Big Pine Key, Florida, were arrested on Friday following an investigation into how an infant sustained a broken leg.
Lester Gustavo Perez-Tecu, 24, and Gustavo Perez-Ramirez, 43, were both charged with child neglect and making false statements to law enforcement.
The investigation began in September 2024, when a child under the age of one was brought to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon with a broken leg. At the time of the initial investigation, the child was in the custody of Perez-Tecu. The child is currently in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Investigators found inconsistencies in the statements provided by witnesses and the two suspects. Medical examinations revealed evidence of previous injuries to the child’s bones, including the skull, which were determined to be non-accidental.
The investigation into this case is ongoing, and authorities indicate that additional charges may be pending.
