Two Florida men were arrested, and a litter of puppies and their mom were saved after police and FWC conducted a well-being check on an island.
On May 03, 2023, in collaboration with MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife, the Port Orange Police Department’s officers, detectives, and animal control officers conducted a well-being check in reference to a report of several individuals camping on an island in the Halifax River south of the Dunlawton Bridge.
Police say the campers were reported to be in possession of a malnourished dog who had just given birth to numerous puppies.

Upon arrival on the island, officers found the dog and thirteen 12-day-old puppies.
The dogs’ owner, Jeremiah Reding, who had previously been trespassed from the property, was placed under arrest.
Additionally, Billy Roden, was placed under arrest for an active Bay County, FL arrest warrant for violation of pre-trial release for aggravated assault.
The mother dog was found to be malnourished, dehydrated, and was not in proper condition to be nursing the puppies.
All dogs were removed from the island and transported to Halifax Humane Society, Inc. for veterinary care.
Police say criminal charges in reference to animal cruelty are forthcoming.
“The Port Orange Police Department would also like to thank members of the community who reached out to us with their concern for these poor animals,” said POPD.
If anyone has any information regarding any suspicious or criminal activities in relation to animal cruelty, please notify law enforcement.
