On Monday, two Israeli hostages were freed by Hamas, which had earlier on October 7 captured hundreds of civilians.
With more than 1,400 Israelis slain since October 7, Hamas has taken over 200 hostages as part of a massive terrorist attack against Israel. According to officials with knowledge of the situation who spoke with CNN,
Hamas freed two Israeli women who are currently in the care of the Red Cross on Monday.
The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed the release of the two hostages, 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz and 79-year-old Nurit Cooper.
The two women, along with their husbands, were kidnapped from their homes in the kibbutz of Nir Oz near the Gaza border in Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack through towns of southern Israel. Their husbands were not released, accordign to the AP.

“There are still ten additional Americans who remain unaccounted for in this conflict. We know that some of them are being held hostage by Hamas, along with an estimated 200 other hostages held in Gaza,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday. “Every single one of them should be released.”
In a statement, the terror group Hamas stated that they had freed the two due to “humanitarian and poor health grounds” and that “the enemy refused to receive them last Friday.” According to The New York Times, the Biden administration has been collaborating with Qatar, which is mediating talks with Hamas, to free as many hostages as feasible.
On Friday, Hamas freed a mother and her daughter, two American hostages.
According to Hamas, the actions were taken for “humanitarian reasons.”
