HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A road rage incident escalated into gunfire Tuesday on South Falkenburg Road in Hillsborough County. Two drivers heading northbound became involved in an altercation, during which one driver shot at the other vehicle.

A 16-year-old female passenger in the targeted vehicle was struck by a bullet and taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of both vehicles were unharmed.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Gunfire Response Investigations Team is currently investigating the scene, working to determine the number of shots fired and the events leading up to the shooting.

“There is simply no excuse to endanger a life because of a disagreement with another driver,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “There is absolutely no reason for an innocent 16-year-old to be in the hospital because of a road rage incident.”

Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident. Deputies are in contact with everyone involved and are conducting interviews.
