A 15-year-old girl, Valeria Rodriguez, was tragically killed by a stray bullet while eating dinner with her family in their Round Lake Beach home on July 24.
Authorities said that the shot was fired from outside the house, striking Valeria in the torso. She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is leading the investigation. Initially, 19-year-old Shorbonia Poole Jr. was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon after a search of his home yielded a semiautomatic pistol and other evidence.

On August 5, charges against Poole were upgraded to aggravated discharge of a firearm and felony murder.
Valeria, an incoming sophomore at Round Lake High School, is remembered as a kind and respectful young woman with a bright future ahead of her.
A vigil was held in her memory, where family and friends gathered to mourn her loss and demand justice.
