SARSOTA, Fla. – A 12-year-old girl from Sarasota is in critical condition after a tragic accident that happened on Monday at 7:45 am.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers say the young girl was exiting an SUV parked on Myrtle Street when she dropped some markers and pens. As she bent down to retrieve them from under the vehicle, the driver, unaware of her position, began to move forward.

The SUV’s wheels struck the girl, causing critical injuries.

Emergency services responded swiftly, and the girl was airlifted to All Children’s Hospital via Bayflite.

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this devastating accident.
