TAMPA, Fla. – Reported at 4:30 PM on Thursday, a tragic rollover accident with a one-year-old boy being ejected from a Nissan Frontier.
“The vehicle rolled several times and ended up facing down,” said Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Yanko Reyes.
FHP said there were a total of seven people in the Nissan, 3-adults, and 4-children. The passengers were able to get out of the truck themselves and alert police that the one-year-old boy was missing.
It was not reported if the one-year-old boy was restrained in a car seat when the accident occurred, but a search for the boy immediately took place.
“We conducted a thorough search and we were able to find the deceased body of the 1-year-old male in the canal who was facing up. One of our team members stumbled upon him and the body was recovered,” said Reyes.
Investigators say they believe that a blown tire may have caused the accident that shut down East Bound Alligator alley for hours. Investigators say the accident victims are from Tampa.
