WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Winter Haven Police Department has been re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), solidifying its commitment to professional excellence and community-focused policing.
The announcement came at CALEA’s summer conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where Police Chief David Brannan, Assistant City Manager of Public Safety Charlie Bird, and Accreditation Manager Carla Neil represented the department. The committee chair praised Winter Haven’s “flawless” four-year review and onsite assessment.

“This re-accreditation shows our commitment to professional excellence as law enforcement evolves and community perspectives change,” said Police Chief David Brannan. “The re-accreditation process is an agency-wide effort from all members to ensure proofs of compliance and written directive systems are in place and meet the CALEA standards.”
CALEA accreditation is a continuous process that signifies an agency’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and ethical conduct. It requires agencies to demonstrate adherence to best practices in areas such as policy development, training, and community engagement.
