In a significant development, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced today the arrest of Victor Hugo Chox Gonzalez, the most wanted fugitive on the state’s recently launched “10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants” list.

Chox Gonzalez, 38, was apprehended in Fort Worth without incident by DPS Special Agents on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, thanks to a tip received through the Texas Crime Stoppers hotline.

He had been wanted since March 2023 on felony warrants for aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child, and failure to appear.

According to DPS, Chox Gonzalez is a Guatemalan national who was residing in Fort Worth illegally. He has a criminal history in Texas dating back to 2019, with prior arrests for theft, assault, and drug possession.

“The arrest of Victor Chox Gonzalez is a testament to the effectiveness of our new initiative to target criminal illegal immigrants,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “We are grateful to the public for their assistance in locating this dangerous individual, and we will continue to work tirelessly to remove these threats from our communities.”

Chox Gonzalez’s capture marks the first arrest from the state’s new list, which was unveiled in May 2024 as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration and border security. The list highlights individuals with serious criminal records who are also in the country illegally, with the aim of facilitating their apprehension and removal.

Chox Gonzalez is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail without bond, awaiting extradition to the county where the warrants were issued. The DPS encourages the public to continue reporting tips on the remaining fugitives on the “10 Most Wanted” list through the Texas Crime Stoppers program.
