Florida Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled a key component of his Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget for Fiscal Year 2025-26 Friday, announcing significant pay increases for state law enforcement officers and firefighters.
The proposed budget includes $118.3 million to boost salaries for more than 4,700 sworn law enforcement officers and over 730 state firefighters. This reinforces Florida’s commitment to supporting those who protect and serve its communities.

Speaking at a press conference in Ponte Vedra Beach, DeSantis emphasized his administration’s ongoing support for law enforcement and first responders.
“We support the men and women who keep our streets and communities safe,” DeSantis said. “Throughout my time in office, I have delivered on my promise to support law enforcement and first responders. Therefore, in the coming fiscal year, I am recommending a well-earned pay raise.”
The proposed pay increases include:
- A 20% raise for entry-level sworn law enforcement officers.
- A 25% raise for veteran sworn law enforcement officers and all state firefighters.
The recommended pay raises build on previous initiatives to bolster support for Florida’s first responders.
Under DeSantis’ leadership, the state has implemented measures such as bonuses for law enforcement officers, expanded benefits for first responders, and programs to recruit and retain public safety personnel.

These efforts have contributed to Florida’s record-low crime rates and its reputation as one of the safest and most desirable states to live, work, and raise a family.
The proposed $118.3 million allocation for pay raises is part of a broader budget plan that emphasizes fiscal discipline while addressing key priorities such as education, infrastructure, and public safety.
The budget will now go to the Florida Legislature for review and approval as part of the state’s annual appropriations process.
