POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A fiery crash on State Road 570 (Polk Parkway) in Polk County has claimed the life of one driver. The incident occurred on Wednesday near the 11.5 milepost.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 2:12 a.m., a single-unit box truck was traveling eastbound on SR-570 behind a tractor-trailer driven by a 51-year-old Tampa man. The tractor-trailer reduced its speed, but the box truck failed to do so, resulting in a rear-end collision.

The impact caused the box truck to erupt in flames. The driver of the box truck suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has not yet been identified. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and cleared the wreckage.
